17th Century Battleship Matchstick Model

This project will be available for auction from the offset (today).
No private bidders’ details will be listed on the website, unless authorized to do so.
To place a bid, use the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website.
This sale includes the original sketches, plans, T.D designs – and finally the model, which will be made from matchsticks and traditionally built.
The ship will be approximately 4ft in length x 1ft in width. Each matchstick will be individually water soaked and bent to fit, each piece made for the finished product, with blocks and wedges, as will be seen through regular updates as the project progresses on this home page. This will be a fully functioning boat, the steering mechanism will be made out of matchsticks, and operable.
The ship will have cannons and people hand-crafted out of matchsticks. The auction will last an estimated 18 months, and a set date will become available once the project nears completion.

The Artist
He has never built anything like this before, and it is all being built from pure imagination.
No books or reference material are being used for the design or production methods. Its is one of the hardest challenges undertaken so far. He would like to remain anonymous at present.
He has involved himself with various projects.

In his own words:
"I am sat in a room, and imagining myself in a boat builders yard, back in the 16th century, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603) – when they used to build ships made from oak, they would have to steam the wood to shape using block and wedges to match the design on paper, and imagining it is my job to design and build a battleship for the Queen fleet.
My only inspiration has been from viewing history documentaries on TV."
* This will not include the copyright of this model or the designs
